We’ve recently started our in person services, and have seen lots of new faces too – we love the fact God is growing our church family! Here’s some news for this month as we look ahead to Pentecost and the month of May
We couldn’t be more excited that we are running our first Youth Alpha – a chance for our young people to ask the BIG questions about faith and life! It will run on Thursday nights in the church building for 9 weeks with an additional away day. The first session is this Thursday, get in touch with Jo to book on
The EDGE group (Every Day God Encounters) has been an active group for many years, aimed at families in Townhill. This has grown and developed into a worshipping community which now meets fortnightly on Sundays – named EDGE+! The next meeting will be on Sunday 2nd May at 4pm in the Townhill Community Centre, and is very informal and relaxed. Due to COVID restrictions there is a need to book, but all are welcome! Get in touch with Ruth to book in
Ascension Day and Pentecost are approaching, where as Christians we celebrate Jesus’s ascension and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. To mark these, we are hosting two worship nights and a morning of liturgical worship. The first evening of prayer and worship will be on Thursday 13th May, and have a very relaxed, acoustic feel. The second will be in the evening of Sunday 23rd May. Both of these will be in person in the church building and start at 7.30pm, no need to book on! On Wednesday 19th May at 10am, we will be holding a liturgical worship service with space for reflection, which will take place in the church building but will also be available via our usual Zoom details.
Our annual church meeting will be held on Sunday 23rd May after the 10.45 service (12.30 start). It’s a chance for us to hear about what God has done over the past year within our church community (despite COVID!) and for us to complete some legal bits as well!
Sometimes we feel a bit awkward talking about money, but we’ve been blessed to have people ask us over the years (instead of us asking!) so we’ve got some details for anyone who may be interested.
Parish Giving Scheme
It is now possible to set-up regular giving online using the Parish Giving Scheme. This is run by the Church of England and they do all the hard work of claiming Gift Aid for us. Through your account you are in full control of how much you give and can stop whenever you need to, and be completely anonymous if you choose. There are no fees and everything plus Gift aid comes to us on a monthly basis. Any questions, please contact Tim Nutt, our church Treasurer at firstname.lastname@example.org
Ecclesiastical Home Insurance
If you use Ecclesiastical for your home insurance they will give £130 to the church. Ecclesiastical are a reputable insurance company who specialise in insuring church buildings and we use them for Ascension. They also provide quotes for regular home insurance. Find out more here
If you are in need of support of any kind during this time, whether prayer or in another way, please get in touch with a member of the team or the office. We are so glad things are opening up again, but know it can be an overwhelming time for many.
Let us take hope in the words of the Psalmist (Psalm 147: 1-5)
“Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him! The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel. He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.”
