Lent

Very soon we will enter the season of Lent, where we remember Jesus’s time in the wilderness, before we celebrate Easter. As Jesus went into the wilderness full of the Holy Spirit, it can reminded us to look at our own faith journey. This year, we’re partnering with the Church of England’s #LiveLent which encourages us to immerse ourselves in God’s story, and then tell our stories. We’re recommending the book ‘Living His Story’, which can be bought here, along with a 40-day devotional leaflet. The devotional can be used alongside the book, or on it’s own, and can be collected from our church building. We’ve bought lots and would love you to have one!

Parenting course

Starting Monday 22nd February, Jo will be running an 8-week parenting course in conjunction with Parenting for Faith. It will take place at 7.30pm over Zoom and be an opportunity to be equipped and resourced to raise faith-filled kids, and be an opportunity to meet and share challenges with other parents during these times. To book on, email jo@ascensionsouthampton.co.uk

Early Morning Bible Study

As a church we are always seeking more ways we can encounter Jesus and deepen our faith. For those that would like to join us, we’ll be studying Philippians over our early morning coffee! Starting Tuesday 2nd March at 7.30am, we’ll be meeting to study the book together (over Zoom) and start the day immersed in God’s word. The Zoom details will be identical to the 9am service, but please ask a member of the staff team if you would like these details

Buddy scheme

During these times we are acutely aware we have a number of people within our community who have limited communication with others due to shielding or isolation due to the pandemic. We want to let you know about our buddy system, where you can request a phone call each week with someone from the wider church community, or you can sign up to phone or perhaps give aid once a week to someone! If you feel able to do this, please get in touch with Lauren at Lauren@ascensionsouthampton.co.uk

7.14 Prayer

One of our values as a church is ‘dependant prayer’ where we prioritize seeking God in all situations. The 24/7 prayer movement launched 7.14 prayer at the beginning of the pandemic, encouraging Christians to pray at 7.14 morning and evening for the prevention of the virus and the effect its had on our nation. There are several in our church who are already doing this, and we’d love to encourage all of us to join in – simply set an alarm, and pray twice a day for our community and nation, privately, with your household, or on the front of your doorstep! See here for more details

Finally, a reminder of God’s faithfulness to us through the words of Isaiah:

“Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” Isaiah 41: 10
