New student? Welcome to Southampton! We love having students as part of our church! We’d love to do all we can to help you grow abundantly in faith and step out in mission during your time at university. You’ll find that the core of our student work at Ascension is a passion to help you go deeper with Jesus and encourage those around you to do the same.
Welcoming New Students – 2020
As we are meeting in person for church on Sundays, we’d love to invite any new students to join us on Sunday mornings. Most of our students come to our 10.45 service, although don’t let that stop you trying the 9.00 – find out more here.
Whilst closely monitoring government guidance, we are planning to do student lunches – in take away form! We had previously planned to have student’s eating hot meals in our church building, however due to the latest COVID-19 guidance we’ve made some changes.
After our 10.45 service from the 27th September until the 25th October we’ll be giving every student a take away bag with a delicious lunch. This can be taken outside to the park and eaten with our current students in groups of six, or taken home to enjoy! It’s a chance for us to bless you, save you from some cooking, and allow you to get to know some of our church family in a socially distant (but in person) way.
Be assured the take away bags will be prepared with strict hygiene measures in place, and prepared 48 hours before distribution where possible. If you’ve got any questions or queries, please email Lorna at Lorna@ascensionsouthampton.co.uk as we’d love to help in any way we can
Ascension Student Events
Our Student group meets weekly on Wednesdays. Together we worship, pray and seek God’s heart for how He wants to work in and through us during our time at university. It’s a chance to be part of the student family – there’s also cake! Find out more about our small groups.
During COVID-19, we are continuing to meet, although this will look a little different. We will be meeting in person, contact Lorna for more details.
We hold annual student weekends away alongside socials such as ‘murder mysteries’ and barbecues! These allow us to get to form deeper relationships with each other and to invite friends to.
Feel at home in Southampton
We try to link every student up with a family from the wider church, which allows us to easily get to know one another, and give you a proper home cooked meal from time to time too.
Also, everyone has the opportunity to be mentored 1-to-1 by one of our student team. Uni can be difficult, and we want you to feel supported, challenged and equipped in order to live for Jesus in your everyday life.
We don’t want our ministry to end with ourselves and we see mission as a vital part of student life at Ascension. Missional adventures include feeding and caring for the homeless, socials that friends can easily come to, and sessions to help you learn to share the gospel of Jesus.
