Easter and Holy Week

28 March – 4 April 2021

Holy Week, the week before Easter, is a time when we make space to pause, reflect, and worship Jesus for what He did on the cross. Although it will look a little different this year compared to previous years, we will have events in person, which will be accessible online for those unable to attend.

Please note all of our in person services are subject to change based on government guidance. If you attend in person, you will need to wear a mask and follow our COVID regulations, found here.

Palm Sunday

We’ll be meeting online for our 9.00am and 10.45am services, due to still being in lockdown.

Monday 29 March

• 10.00am Morning Prayer, in the Worship Space

• 7.30pm Night Prayer, in the Worship Space

Tuesday 30 March

• 10.00am Morning Prayer, in the Worship Space

• 7.30pm Worship Night – please note that as we are unable to have congregational singing, this will be a time for ‘soaking’, or praise and worship as we have been doing in the 10.45am service on Sunday mornings during lockdown.

Wednesday 31 March

• 10.00am Morning Prayer, in the Worship Space

• 7.30pm Night Prayer, in the Worship Space

Maundy Thursday

• 10.00am Morning Prayer, in the Worship Space

• 7.30pm Worship Night – please note that as we are unable to have congregational singing, this will be a time for ‘soaking’, or praise and worship as we have been doing in the 10.45am service on Sunday mornings during lockdown.

Good Friday

• 12noon-3.00pm, a time at the Cross, in the Worship Space. Join for as long or as little as you would like to. During the 3 hours, there will be readings and time for reflection as we go through the journey to the Cross.

Easter Sunday

In person 9.00am and 10.45am services of celebration with communion. The 10.45 will be family-friendly celebration and there will be no children’s groups.

Although we don’t ask individuals to book for our usual Sunday services, we will be asking you to book on to our Easter Day 10.45am service to manage seating and social distancing.

Book online here.

Both services will have online provisions, with audio listening to the 9.00am via Zoom, or the 10.45am via YouTube.

Children’s Easter Trails

We’ve got two Easter trails for our young people around Bitterne Park, one for over 10’s, and one for under 10’s. We are looking for help specifically for our under 10’s Easter Story trail, see here for more information.

The under 10’s Easter Story trail will provide children with a craft pack, which includes themed activities representing different stages of the Easter story. It’ll be a fun trail around Bitterne Park, and may even include some chocolate!

The ‘Among Us’ trail for older children and youth is a QR code trail, where scanning the code on any character in the trail will lead to an encrypted map. Complete the trail through finding the Among Us Easter characters and claim your prize from Jo at our church building, between 11 and 1 on Tuesday 6th April.

For more information for both of these trails, including collecting the craft bag, please get in touch with Jo – Jo@ascensionsouthampton.co.uk

Easter Lilies

Each year we give the opportunity at Easter for people to remember loved ones who are not with us any more. If you would like to buy an Easter lily in memory of someone, which will be displayed in the church, please contact the office.

After Morning Prayer during the week, the building will be open until 12 noon for those who wish to stay to reflect or pray.

On Monday and Wednesday evening before Night Prayer, the building will be open from 6.00pm for private prayer if you wish to use the space beforehand.

For Morning and Night Prayer, those wishing to access online can join (audio only) via Zoom, which are the same details as the 9.00am service

For those looking for information on our Easter Morning Sunrise Service, this depends on Church of England guidance and advice. It is currently too early to confirm this yet and we’ll update this page when we know more.
