June News

June is here, and with it comes lots to update you on from us here at Ascension:

Kids work training day – Thanks from Jo
Thanks to all those who gave their time to come to our kids work training day.  A great turnout of around thirty people, and we had a great time talking about how to make Ascension kids accessible for all, safe and a place kids know their heavenly father’s love as well as having lots of fun together. If you would like to find out more about getting involved in this ministry then please do contact Jo – joanne@ascensionsouthampton.co.uk

Film screening – suggestion from the GrACE group
As part of Great Big Green Week (8 – 16th June), our GrACE group are encouraging members of the congregation to join them for a film screening of “Six Inches of Soil” at Harbour Lights on June 12th June at 8pm.

“The inspiring story of British farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food – to heal the soil, benefit our health and provide for local communities“. It will be an opportunity to learn more about our food production and long term effects of farming. Get in touch with the GrACE Group to find out more gracegroup@ascensionsouthampton.co.uk

Mac, Lorna and Esme
Huge congratulations to our curate Mac, who has been appointed Vicar of St Marks Church, Southampton.  We will miss Mac, Lorna and Esme hugely but we are excited for them as they move to their new church!  Sunday 16th June will be their last Sunday at Ascension, and they would love to spend it with you all.  Please do join us on Sunday 16th, we will be praying for them and will have social time with cake after the 9am and 10.45am services.

YouthFest
We are excited to be returning to YouthFest this summer (21st – 23rd June) with our young people, where they meet together with the youth from partnering Southampton churches for a weekend of fun, with some fantastic opportunities to listen, ask and learn more about Jesus.  We need a few more people to support this exciting event so please speak to Jo or Luke about helping with our Operations team for the weekend – from stewarding to catering, washing up and other tasks, it’s serving in a practical way at an event which has previously had a big impact on Ascension’s young people. Bookings are closing soon so if you have a young person wanting to go, please speak with Jo or Luke.

All Age Service – Sunday 30th June
On Sunday 30th June at our 10.45 am service, we will not be having children’s and youth groups.  Instead everyone will be in the worship space together. We are delighted that our new  Youth band will be leading our worship and we have baptisms too, so do come and celebrate with us.  If  you prefer a calmer and more traditional service, the 9am service will be taking place as usual.

Other upcoming dates for your diary:
