September News

We hope you’ve had a chance to rest and recharge as we step into this exciting new season. God is calling us into new adventures, bringing fresh opportunities and new faces to the team. We are excited to welcome new members who will journey with us as we pursue His purpose together. As we embark on this path, let’s prioritise prayer, grounding ourselves in His presence and seeking guidance for the road ahead. This is a season of growth, unity, and transformation—let’s embrace it with open hearts and a spirit of prayerful anticipation!

EDGE+ ‘Summer Fun’ Pop Up Event
We had a wonderful two days at EDGE Summer Fun last month, loads of families came and made a lot of beautiful craft things, did some disgustingly messy games and loved the unicorn and all the animals at the pop up farm. We made lots of new friends and hope to see them again at other things. Thank you to all who helped!

Weekly prayer at Ascension
Prayer is the engine room of all that we do here at Ascension, so we are pleased that our weekly prayer meetings will start up again after the summer break. We meet at Ascension every Tuesday from 12:30-1pm during the term-time to pray for our church and community. All are welcome so please do come along if you are able to.

Creation Sunday and Harvest Thanksgiving  – Sunday 15th September
At our Creation Sunday service on 15th September we will joyfully offer thanks to God for his creation and reflect on how we can love in ways that care for it. We would love to encourage both our 9am and 10:45am congregations to bring thanksgiving gifts for Basics Bank into the worship space as part of this service.

Ascension Gardening
We are blessed to have wonderful green spaces around our church building. The GrACE Gardening group do an amazing job looking after these spaces, and would love your help this September! If you have any time on the 11th or 25th September from 9:30-12noon and would be willing to lend a hand in our garden then please do come along then. Contact Helen for more info gracegroup@ascensionsouthampton.co.uk

Townhill Park Community Litter Pick
We will be holding a community litter picking event followed by doughnuts and squash, on September 18th from 3:30pm. We will meet at the EDGE Hub (121-123 Meggeson Avenue) and go on from there. Equipment is provided. If you haven’t yet visited the EDGE Hub, this is an ideal opportunity to do so!

Newcomers’ Meal
If you are new to Ascension or have just visited a few times, we would love to invite you to come and share a meal with us after the 10.45 am service on Sunday 20th October. The meal will be an opportunity to get to know the team and others at Ascension and to find out more about what goes on here and how to get involved. There is no cost, but please do sign up here so we know how many to cater for, we would love to see you there.

Light in the Night Party
Jo and Luke are already busy scheming and planning ahead of this years Light in the Night Party. If you haven’t heard of it before, it is a wonderful outreach event for children and their families on 31st October – bringing light and love to our community. Last year we welcomed over 250 people into our church for the event and we absolutely couldn’t have done it without all our amazing team. So, please could we ask you to do three things this month:
1 – Pray. Please pray for the event, for logistics, for the team and for all those families who will walk through the doors on the night – that they will feel God’s love and light in the place.
2 – Join the team – we need lots and lots of helpers to make the event happen – if you can spare some time on the 31st October, please get in touch with lizi@ascensionsouthampton.co.uk and join our amazing team of helpers.
3 – Donate – we need old polyester duvets and Christmas trees! if you have any that you can spare – please do drop them into the youth space or office.
