July News

Welcome to our July newsletter, we have lots to update you on this month, but as ever, please do keep an eye on our events page for more details on all of our regular activities and events.

Update from YouthFest
We had a great time at YouthFest with 150 young people from 9 different churches including 21 from Ascension. It was so uplifting seeing young people having fun, praying for each other, worshipping, and sharing their lives over the weekend. It was a blessing being part of the event, and we are so thankful to all those who helped, especially Sarah who joined Luke to support our youth.

Welcome to James & Hannah
We are very excited to welcome James and Hannah to Ascension! James has now officially joined us as our new curate this month. He will be licenced during the 9am service this coming Sunday (6th July). We will celebrate this with coffee and cake afterwards. Please do get in touch with Lizi if you are able to bring a cake along – the more the merrier!  We will also be having a Bring & Share lunch together at 12:30 in place of our usual Big Church Lunch. Please do come along for this and bring some food to share. Visit the Potluck page  to sign up to bring food or contact the Parish Office for more details.

Market Place Volunteers
We are loving having the Market Place here at Ascension each week, however the team are in need of extra volunteers to stock the shelves on a Wednesday morning between 9am and 11am for 1-2 hours. Please get in contact with the office if you would like to know more about how you can serve in this ministry.

Sundays in August
Over August, we try to have a quieter month, so some of our Sunday Services will look a little different:

  • 9am service will take place as normal during August, come along if you prefer a quieter more reflective service with Holy Communion
  • 10:45am services will be a little shorter over August, with no separate kids or youth groups, but still plenty of fun activities for all ages. We will be exploring “Faith around the Campfire” so do come along and join us if you can over August.
  • 7pm services will pause over the Summer Holidays (with the last 7pm service on Sunday 20th July) restarting again in September.

Pastoral Care at Ascension
We know that life isn’t always easy or straightforward, which is why we have a dedicated team who offer support throughout the challenging times. If you would like to chat about something that is happening in your life, please do get in touch with Heather who leads our Pastoral Team at pastoral@ascensionsouthampton.co.uk. We also have a dedicated Prayer Ministry Team who would love to pray for you, please email prayer@ascensionsouthampton.co.uk with any prayer requests.

Finally, we want to leave with you with a verse from Ezekiel 36: 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

God Bless,
Ascension Staff Team
