The Ark
The fortnightly Sunday service at the Townhill Park Community centre, previously known as Edge Crew is being renamed to the Ark. The Ark acknowledges a new season of our work in Townhill Park by referencing a biblical place of refuge and new beginnings, but also, and significantly, acknowledging the social history of this much overlooked community by reclaiming the name of its old public house.
Sundays in September
We are back to our normal routine for Sunday Services after the Summer break. The 9am and 10:45 every week with the 7pm evening service every 2nd Sunday and Prayers walks every 4th Sunday. The Ark meets at Townhill Community Centre on the 1st and 3rd Sunday at 3pm, starting on the 20th September.
Summer Hoe-down Success
The Summer Hoedown on the Townhill green was a huge success. Many thanks to all the volunteers on the day. We had over 250 people on the day and fed over 100 adults and children that evening. We were able to tell people about Ascension and the Ark fortnightly Sunday services as people asked why we organised the Hoe-down; many expressed an interest in the Christian aspect of what we do.
September Prayer Day
As part of the Global week of prayer, we are joining in prayer with people from all nations to pray for our world and for peace. We will be marking this through weekday daily online prayers starting on the 7th Sept at 8:45am (Zoom link & Passcode: Jesus). There will also be a prayer day on Saturday 12th at Ascension in the worship space 10am to 2pm.
Townhill Park Vision Evening
On September 15th at 7pm you are warmly invited to join us at Ascension church for a vision evening as we share some of the stories that have shaped Townhill Park and prayerfully seek God’s voice as we move into the next phase of this important mission work with The Ark, a new worshipping community for the people of Townhill Park.
Big church clean-up
Like all busy buildings, every so often they need a thorough tidy up. On Saturday 19th Sept we plan to get a group of volunteers together to de-clutter, tidy, and clean various areas in the church. If you have some time, please let the church office know. Thank you!
Townhill Community Meal
On Saturday 26th September 4pm we are hosting a community meal at the Townhill Community Centre for those who have expressed an interest in The Ark, our new worshipping community in Townhill Park. If you would like to help with cooking or hosting, please contact Sandra or the office.
Regular Events
- Dad’s Lego Breakfast is paused for September, and will restart on Saturday 3rd October
- Half Hour of Prayer for Townhill Park is now on the 9th Sept 1:30pm. This month we won’t meet at the Hub, new venue TBC.
- Ascension Ladies Group will meet on 4th Sept for a post-holiday meet-up with tea and cake and on the 18th Sept for the AGM and a fun quiz.
Prayer Points
In your personal prayers this month please remember:
- Please pray for our young people and student’s that they have a good and settled start as they join their new schools, colleges and universities.
- Pray for the recruitment process for the new Assistant Youth worker to replace Luke.
- And lastly, please pray for the Townhill Park Community meal this month as we invite new people to join the Ark worshipping community.
As we explore the Book of Psalms through our sermon series this term, we thought we’d leave you with a verse from the Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
